    Application

The Smartfit Y Plan is designed to provide timed independent control for both heating and domestic hot water circuits in fully pumped central heating systems. Time and temperature settings for both heating and hot water are set at the Room Unit, thus giving a single point of control.

This revolutionary system is designed for ease of installation. All control connections are either by two wire or plug and socket and are low voltage.

Many Smartfit components are common to both Y and S plans and all controls are available as single items. Wiring for pump and boilers is the same for any control system. A central base unit provides simple low voltage plug-in or two-wire connection for all heating and hot water controls.

    Installation

The Base Unit should be installed in a convenient location where the majority of the system wiring is to be terminated, such as the cylinder cupboard or close to the boiler. It has knockouts to facilitate cable entry located on the left-hand side and rear for the line voltage wiring and on the right hand side and rear for Smartfit low voltage wiring. Do not run low voltage wiring across the printed wiring board or next to line voltage wiring. Remove the cover and mount using the two mounting screw positions.

Wire the Base Unit line voltage connections to suit system

Make the Room Unit connections. It does not matter which wire goes to which terminal.

Install the Valve and Actuator, then insert the plug into the socket on the Base Unit ensuring that it ?clicks? into place.

Fit the sensor to the cylinder then insert the plug into its socket on the Base Unit ensuring that it ?clicks? into place.

Ensure that the cable clamp supplied is used to secure the pump cable. Ensure that the selector switch is in the Y Plan position, refit cover.

The mains and boiler terminals are for fixed wiring. However, when this is not practicable a cable clamp can also be supplied for securing flexible wiring from both the boiler and fused spur.

If the Base Unit is located some distance from the fused spur boiler and pump, it is recommended that the optional Boiler Junction Box be used.

To enable the Base Unit to be mounted onto a flush mounted wall box, an Adaptor Plate is available.

    Operation

Hot Water Only Requirement ? On a demand for heat from the cylinder thermostat, the valve remains open to DHW only and the pump and boiler are switched on.

Heating Only Requirement ? On a demand for heat from the room thermostat, the valve motor is energised so that the CH port only is opened and the pump and boiler are switched on.

Heating and Hot Water Requirement ? When both thermostats demand heat, the valve plug is positioned to allow both ports to be open and the pump and boiler switched on. When neither thermostat is demanding heat, the pump and boiler are off. The valve remains in the last position of operation whilst the time control is in the ?ON? position.
