Product Uses

Fernox Protector MB-1 gives long term protection of domestic central heating systems against internal corrosion and limescale formation. It prevents corrosion of all metals found in these systems, i.e. ferrous metals, copper and copper alloys and aluminium. It is suitable for all types of boiler, radiators and pipework systems. Fernox Protector MB-1 is compatible with all metals and materials commonly used in central heating systems.

For continued protection we recommend Protector levels are checked regularly (annually). The concentration of the product can be easily measured on site using a Fernox Protector test kit.

Physical Properties

Protector MB-1 is a blend of inorganic and organic corrosion and scale inhibitors and biocide.

Colour: Pale. Amber.

Application and Dosage

The recommended 'in-use' concentration of the product is 4%. One 4 litre pack will treat an average 3 to 4 bedroom house. The product can be introduced via the feed and expansion tank or injected directly into the system via a radiator or filling loop.

In single feed indirect cylinders, e.g. "Primatic" or similar, potable water chemicals must be used.

We recommend untreated systems are thoroughly cleansed and flushed in accordance with BS7593 and Benchmark using Fernox Restorer, before treating with Fernox Protector MB-1, as existing debris can damage the installation.

Packaging, Handling and Storage

Fernox Protector MB-1 is supplied in 4 litre and 25 litre containers.

Fernox Protector MB-1 is classified as non-hazardous, but as with all chemical: Keep out of reach of children. Do not mix with other chemicals. Do not take internally. In case of contact with eyes or skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water.

Question

HELLO UK PLUMBING - I HAVE A 8 RADIATOR CENTRAL HEATING SYSTEM.
I ADDED 4 LITRES OF FERNOX MB-1 TO THE HEADER TANK IN MAY 2002 SO I THINK I WILL BE DUE TO ADD SOME MORE BUT HOW MUCH THE SAME AGAIN? A NAIL TEST OF THE EXISTING SOLUTION IS NOT SHOWING MUCH RUSTING.
ALSO IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE THAT I CAN ADD WITH THE FERNOX TO PREVENT LEAKS.
I HAVE HAD TWO SEPARATE COSLY LEAKS IN MY INCOMING COLD WATER SYSTEM OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS. THEY WERE IN COPPER PIPING ABOUT 50 YEARS OLD EMBEDDED DOWN IN CONCRETE. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT I CAN INJET INTO THIS OLD PIPEWORK TO PREVENT OR MINIMISE FURTHER LEAKAGES.

Answer

Thank you for your enquiry - Please find product page link for the Fernox MB-1 which I
would think after 10 years could use the full 4 litres.
http://www.uk-plumbing.com/fernox-mb1-central-heating-protector-4-litre-p-2293.html
and also page link for the internal leak sealer which can be applied in the same way but please
note that this is for the heating circuit and not mains water.

To be honest I do not think there is a real solution for incoming mains pipes apart
from replacing.

Question

Hello – Please could you explain the difference between your Fernox MB-1 Central Heating Protector and your Fernox F1 Protector? Also do your product prices include Post and Packing charges.

Answer

Thank you for your enquiry - Please find product page link for the Fernox MB-1 Inhibitor
http://www.uk-plumbing.com/fernox-mb1-central-heating-protector-4-litre-p-2293.html
and also page link for the F1 Inhibitor
http://www.uk-plumbing.com/fernox-f1-central-heating-protector-500ml-p-42333.html
Basically no difference, the original MB1 which was normally added to the Feed and Expansion Tank
was a 4 litre container that Fernox first launched and a few years later came the range of concentrates
meaning that they were able to supply a product RANGE that was equal to the original but in a 1/2 litre bottle. Vat is included and delivery which is via UPS couriers cost £4.50.
